In an area outside of Toronto, there lays the mouth of da largest aquifer in the world. It has enough water to house millions of homes throughout Southern Ontario... Virtually forever! From Durham County to York, to King, to Simcoe... It lays beneath our feet. It sits under a land mass of millions of acres. Our Government, in their great logic over da years, have installed more than 20 privately managed and operated garbage dumps all along it. And now they are about to open another!!!
I fear that this is a plan by huge corporations to kill our water table.

George Lawrence is proof positive that good things sometimes come to those who wait. For more than 15 years, he has battled a proposed garbage dump in Tiny Township, just northwest of Barrie, home to some of the best and most productive farmland in Ontario's food belt. A recent surge in local councillors' support has come in time for this week's county council vote on the matter. He didn't do it alone, of course. Lawrence, now in his first term as deputy mayor of the rural township, was part of a close-knit group of farmers, environmentalists and residents who opposed the Site 41 facility in their quietly polite way. They could learn tomorrow if they have won a one-year moratorium on the project that they say will pollute the Alliston Aquifer. Scientists say it contains some of the world's purest drinking water. As the small, hardy group spread its message, Simcoe County council pushed the 20.7-hectare facility, scheduled to open this fall, through the required environmental process. In the past few months, widespread support for a one-year moratorium has zoomed, with a growing list of celebrity opponents joining the cause. Everyone from U.S environmental activist Ralph Nader – who visited Site 41 two weeks ago and wrote Premier Dalton McGuinty to voice his opposition – to Canada's UN water czar Maude Barlow and former Toronto mayor David Crombie, to local residents, politicians, trade unionists and First Nations people has called on the county to take a second look before opening the dump site. "Site 41 should be scrapped because it is sitting atop a large and pristine aquifer that must at all costs be protected," says Barlow, Canada's first senior adviser on water to the United Nations president. The Alliston Aquifer, directly under Site 41, is part of a network of underground reservoirs running from Georgian Bay, under Lake Simcoe almost to Lake Ontario through the Oak Ridges Moraine, which itself provides drinking water for 250,000 York Region residents. Site 41 opponents maintain the dump's natural clay liner and an additional man-made liner will leak a poisonous stew into the ground and surrounding aquifers, as most garbage sites do

The long and short of it is... Corporations (Water Management Moguls) have a large amount of money wrapped up in selling water. If they kill off a huge, FREE, water table that will open up: Water treatment plants; Piped water to farm lands; Piped water to housing projects... It's endless really.

In all reality there are no water shortages, just pure water that doesn't need to be treated to be potable. There really is water everywhere on Earth. The same drop that was here when Cesar was ruler of da world is still here today (except what was taken into space o'coarse). It hasn't gone anywhere. Even in da remotest desert, water streams underneath. Maybe deep underneath, but it's there. Garbage should be the easiest product to deal with, but out'a sheer laziness and lack of knowledge on out part, we let governments take easily recycled materials and, well, dump it. It's time to put our creative scientific minds to work. We must stop dump'n trash on agricultural lands. Stop kill'n our farms. Stop making pure water, polluted water...etc... All for the greed of large corporations to sell something to us that's already there. If there was one scam in da world that is true and utter bullshit... This Is It!

UPDATE: "Protesters win their one year moratorium on landfill Site 41"!

It was a big decision, and reports are that it took Simcoe County Council over three hours to deliberate. But in the end, Council voted to approve a proposed one-year moratorium on the construction of a landfill, Site 41, in Simcoe County, Ontario. I think they knew if they didn't vote this way most of these turds would have lost their easy jobs.

Simcoe County Warden Tony Guergis wrote a letter to the public after Simcoe County Council voted overwhelmingly in favour of the one year moratorium. I won't be bothered putting in Guergis's letter. Needless to say he's in favor of da site. He's a total ASS-CLOWN, bought and sold by these greedy businessmen! He'll never see another term.

Under the moratorium, aside from filling in the clay already excavated out of the site, there will be no construction on Site 41 until at least 2011 - but there will be a municipal election in 2010, which might affect the future of Site 41. "Duhhh... Ya Think"?

This is great news to anyone living in Ontario.

Keep up the good work protesters. If it wasn't for you bringing this out to the forefront, there would have been a great atrocity committed on our lands and to our drinking water.

"The First Nations" deserve most of the credit in this small victory by taking this problem to the World's Stage.

It's nice to see Farmers, Land owners, concerned citizens and "The First Nations" all committed to the same cause for a change. Hopefully this will be the norm in the future when we fight big business and big corporate government.

Food-for-fuel controversy angers ethanol producer

It's Wrong to link sugar price to expensive fuel, Greenfield founder says: Ken Field says he's tired of the "campaign against corn ethanol" that has created a damaging public misperception of the renewable fuel. The founder and chairman of Toronto-based Greenfield Ethanol, the largest independent ethanol producer in Canada, is lashing out at reports last week that record-high sugar prices will lead to more expensive ethanol, and as a result push up prices at the gas pumps.

In Brazil, maybe – but not in North America, not in Canada. "This (rise in sugar) has absolutely nothing to do with ethanol, particularly in Ontario," said Field, lamenting the spread of information that most proponents of ethanol blame on the oil and food lobbies. Lack of monsoon rains in India had helped put a squeeze on global sugar production, pushing prices up more than 74 per cent this year. But sugar fell yesterday for a second day in London on speculation recent rain in India will improve prospects for the harvest in October. White, or refined, sugar for October delivery dropped $1.20 (U.S.), or 0.2 per cent, to $551.80 a tonne in London on the Liffe exchange. The contract has dropped 6.5 per cent from last week's $589.90, the highest price since at least 1983.

Most of the ethanol produced and used in North America comes from corn, not sugar, said Field, whose company buys about 60 million bushels of corn a year. "Fact is, there's lots of corn, so the price of ethanol is not going to go up. If anything, it's going to be lower." The U.S. Agriculture Department said last week the United States is expected to have its second-largest corn crop this year, with farmers harvesting 12.76 billion bushels. That's up 5 per cent compared with 2008. When last year's leftover stock is added, the total U.S. corn supply will swell to nearly 14.5 billion bushels – the highest level on record. Ethanol producers will use up about a third of that corn to meet a U.S. mandate this year that 10.5 billion gallons of ethanol be blended with vehicle fuel, a requirement that climbs to 12 billion gallons in 2010. (Across Canada the mandate is 5 per cent of all vehicle fuel) Even with a 15 per cent increase in the number of corn bushels used this year for U.S. ethanol production, a year-end surplus of 1.62 billion bushels is expected. "Where's the food-for-fuel debate?" said Field. "There's no shortage."

To counter concerns that producing ethanol from corn is too energy-intensive, doesn't do much to reduce greenhouse gases and leads to higher food prices by diverting land away from food crops – claims many call alarmist – the biofuel industry is developing a second-generation ethanol that's made from agricultural, forest and even municipal waste. So-called cellulosic ethanol requires far less energy to make and doesn't compete with food. The technology exists; the challenge for the industry is to drive down the cost. Greenfield, for example, is part of a joint venture in Edmonton that is turning plastics and paper fibres from municipal solid waste into ethanol. The company has also built a pilot plant in Chatham that can convert corncobs into ethanol.

"The results are phenomenal," Field said.

He estimates that using corncobs alone could increase the yield of one of his existing corn ethanol plants by up to 25 per cent.

Several senior U.S. officials said the administration is eyeing a soon-to-be-shuttered state maximum security prison in Michigan and the 134-year-old military penitentiary at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., as possible locations for a heavily guarded site to hold the 229 suspected al-Qaida, Taliban and foreign fighters now jailed at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp in Cuba. The officials outlined the plans — the latest effort to comply with President Barack Obama's order to close the prison camp by Jan. 22, 2010, and satisfy congressional and public fears about incarcerating terror suspects on American soil — on condition of anonymity because the options are under review

White House spokesman Ben LaBolt said Friday that no decisions have been made about the proposal. But the White House considers the courtroom-prison complex as the best among a series of bad options, an administration official said. For months, government lawyers and senior officials at the Pentagon, Justice Department and the White House have struggled with how to close the internationally reviled U.S. Navy prison at Guantanamo. Congress has blocked $80 million intended to bring the detainees to the United States. Lawmakers want the administration to say how it plans to make the moves without putting Americans at risk. The facility would operate as a hybrid prison system jointly operated by the Justice Department, the military and the Department of Homeland Security. Scott Silliman, director of Duke University's Center on Law, Ethics and National Security, called the proposal "totally unprecedented" and said he doubts the plan would work without Congress' involvement.

Obama and his lackeys are using this totally bogus law, created by da Bush Administration, to keep these men locked up.

Don't get me wrong after due process if some, or all of these men are in fact terrorists and are a danger to our society, lock'em up, hang'em, shoot'em in da head, who cares?! But in fact, most of these guys aren't that at all. They are simple men stuck in a world of injustice. During da Second World War, thousands of men were put in internment camps by da "Allied Forces". There were prisoner of war camps located back here at home and abroad. An uprising of unsympathetic minds, driven by propaganda, voiced crap like... "Why should we care for these scum"..."Kill'em, they kill ours"... There was a huge outcry of right wingers that wanted these men killed and/or torchered. What do you think would have happened if we did that? I think you know? No I know you know! All of these prisoners of war went back home and became productive people in the world. German and Japanese former war prisoners remembered how we treated them and some even came back here to live.

This is a war that was crafted by the media and da corporations that owns it. We have to look long term here. We can't just stick these guys in a cell without due process and a fair trail. If any of these men are found guilty of acts of terror, give them da death penalty. But if they aren't and that's what the Government is afraid of, turn'em loose.

In da seven months he's been in da White House he has single handily destroyed two automobile unions, (UAW/CAW), bankrupted the nation, inflated the Iraq war, tried to insight civil unrest in the neighbouring country Iran, watched with his finger up his ass as North Korea flexes it's muscle... so on and so on...

There's a rumor going around that one of Scientology's most powerful proponents, John Travolta, is looking to leave the draconian religion once and for all. After the year he's had, it would make sense.

According to the Daily Mail - who rounded up some interesting quotes on the matter - it appears to be a very real possibility. To say Travolta's had a rough go of it recently would be putting it very, very lightly.

On the business side of things, Travolta's big role this year performed under studio expectations. An complete aside, when you consider his personal life:

His son Jett - reportedly autistic, a diagnosis the Church of Scientology refuses to dignify - passed away earlier this year. Travolta defied Scientology and acknowledged it. Some sleazy gossip website put together a theory that enlists the idea of Travolta not only having a gay lover, but the gay lover - his son's nanny - being a primary cause of his son's death. Which is besides the fact that someone tried to extort him over documents involved in his son's transportation, and his wife might've tried (successfully) to get Roger Friedman fired by going to the top brass at Fox over Friedman's comments on Scientology.

All of this gives the Daily Mail's report some ground to walk on, when they note:

Earlier, the prestigious Time magazine also reported allegations made by Richard Aznaran, the former security head of Scientology, that the Church's leader, David Miscavige, had repeatedly joked about Travolta's 'promiscuous homosexual behaviour'.

And then there's the fact that Scientology has a well known history of intimidation of the physical and emotional stripe. This goes without saying, but: Travolta's donated millions of dollars, and what could only be thousands of hours to the church throughout his life. Shit, he made Battlefield Earth.

For a celebrity of Travolta's stature to renounce Scientology would be massive, for both parties. Even rumors of Travolta's potential departure from the religion are pretty damning. Granted, it'll be a difficult path if he chooses to take it - the resistance he'll encounter from the highest levels of the religion are potentially fiscally, emotionally, and physically dangerous to his livelihood - but one that could shake Scientology to its absolute core.

"The Goods". If it's half as good as the trailer, it will be a riot.

"Funny People" could one of the best movies of da year? The reviews are amazing. Is this the movie that finally gives Adam Sander respect?

If the greenhouse effect could destroy life on Earth, I think it would have done it by now... in fact, I'm sure it has many times. This planet has been hit from space by burning rock, too. Consider the lowest point on the Earth's surface, The Dead Sea. It didn't get there by water running downhill. Something had to smack it down from above. I'm sure mankind will never come close to the carbon based fuel exhaust put out by that blast, and that's only one of many. But, it gets worse. Not only is every speck of rock and dirt the product of complete meltdown, all the air comes from the same place. So how did all this rock get here anyway? Debris from the REAL nuclear world... STARS. Every molecule of every speck of molten rock on Earth is the direct byproduct of interstellar nuclear fusion, the likes of which we can't even imagine. Take the biggest H-bomb ever imagined, then multiply that times a number higher than any number we've ever conceived of, and that's how much every molecule on this planet has been subjected to.
